PowerShell Runspaces: Achieve Multi-Threaded Scripting
Monday May 5, 2025 1:00pm - 2:45pm CDT
Description:
PowerShell by default is just like any other scripting language. You issue commands and they are processed consecutively, one after the other. But what happens when we have multiple things to do that don't depend on each other? Do we really need to wait for the first task to complete before we start the next? We actually have a very robust capability with PowerShell to perform parallel processing. We're not talking about For-EachObject -Parallel. In this session we'll look at runspaces and how to leverage them to achieve multi-threaded scripting.

What you will learn:
  • How to set up and use runspaces and pools.
  • Methods for sharing data between threads/workers.
  • Techniques for debugging and troubleshooting runspaces.
  • Guidelines for utilizing constrained runspaces effectively.

Thursday May 8, 2025 10:00am - 11:45am CDT
Description:
This session was originally submitted as an OSDBuilder v2 session, but what came out of our development was something we call OSDWorkspace.

What is OSDWorkspace?
It's a VS Code Workspace, backed by Git, that allows you to customize and build a WinPE or WinRE boot image with the help of GitHub Copilot. We were lucky to demo this for NWSCUG in late March, and we have two videos to share to get you up to speed, so watch OSD 2025 Preview and OSD 2025 One More Thing to help you decide if this is the right session for you.

What you will learn:
  • How to setup OSDWorkspace in VS Code
  • Using Git for Windows to backup your configuration
  • Build a custom WinRE or WinPE
  • Import Community solutions as Git Submodules to extend your builds
  • Use GitHub Copilot to help build your custom WinPE
  • Add your own PowerShell modules and functions
  • much more ...

After you leave our session, you'll be ready to build your own custom boot image, and you'll be ready to create your own VS Code Workspace for your projects.
